3 years ago today we were waking up to a trail of destruction here in Springfield after twin tornadoes
(hereafter known as "The Sisters") tore a path across the heart of the commercial and residential areas
of the city of Springfield. Not a single life was lost, largely due to the timely warnings by the National
Weather Service. There were indications that a significant outbreak of severe weather would occur over
24 hours before the storms, but nobody could have predicted the devastating supercell that spawned these
twisters.

Here was the first post I was able to make the morning after the tornadoes, and some voice reports during
the day:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/49029.html
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/49376.html
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/49557.html

Pictures of the damage from Day 1:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/50170.html

The NWS summary of the event:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/50206.html

Voice posts and pictures from Day 2:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/50479.html
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/50753.html
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/51111.html

Our personal storm story:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/wxbear73/53025.html

REMINDER: Spring Forward tonight

A reminder to everyone out there to set their clocks forward an hour tonight before going to bed.
Yes we all lose an hour of sleep this weekend. Yay!

Oh and don't forget to test those smoke detectors and CO2 detectors and change the batteries
if necessary. I have a fun idea just to annoy your neighbors, roommates, or significant others...
wait until 2AM then run around the house and test all the alarms. That will wake everyone up and
then you can tell them to change a clock while they are complaining about losing sleep. LOL. Maybe
it would be a good time to have a fire drill too. Let's all run outside in our pajamas at 2AM. A little
protest of Daylight Savings maybe (or at least a laugh or two for the Neighborhood Watch).

Don't let today's spring like weather fool you. Winter is not over yet. Next weekend could be interesting
across many parts of the country. Definitely a change from this weekend if nothing else.

Right now StormLab Regional Radar shows some big storms approaching the Kansas City area and these
will continue to grow overnight.

Torrential rain across the Quad Cities area right now will spread into parts of Central Illinois overnight and
some flash flooding is possible with locally 1-2" per hour rainfall amounts possible with the heavier cells.
Oh, and yes that is snow on the backside of this system west of Des Moines and over into Nebraska.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for parts of Western Missouri and the potential for isolated severe
thunderstorms with large hail and strong winds extends into the St. Louis and Springfield areas overnight.
